Wakefield Samba FAQs
What is Samba Wakefield?
Samba Wakefield is a fun, friendly introduction to Brazilian percussion. We’re kicking off with a short taster course of workshops with Brazilian percussionist Claudio Kron to get us all in the swing. Who knows, it could be the start of the Wakefield Samba School!
Who is Claudio?
Musician Claudio Kron hails from Bahia in Brazil and brings a wealth of experience to the workshops. He has taught many workshops both here and abroad and is passionate about the power of music to change people’s perceptions about themselves and the world. He’ll be teaching us authentic Brazilian rhythms step by step and sharing his love of Brazilian culture. His enthusiasm is infectious!
Is this a drumming group?
You will be introduced to a wide range of Brazilian percussion instruments, including drums and lots more besides!
What will I learn?
Together we’ll be learning how to play traditional Brazilian rhythms on a range of instruments, culminating with everyone playing together in a samba ensemble.
What if I’m a complete beginner?
It doesn’t matter! The workshops are suitable for all levels from complete beginners to people who want to refresh their percussion skills.
Do I need to read music?
No, you will learn your new skills by listening and copying. We won’t be using any printed music.
What age is this for?
The workshops are suitable for all ages. If children want to attend, the workshops are best suited to age 10+ and children must be accompanied by an adult (please provide them with earplugs - grown ups might like to bring those too!).
How much is it?
£5 per workshop – this includes expert tuition from an international artist, all instruments provided for the session, and we’ll even throw in a cup of tea!
Do I need to book?
It would be a big help if we knew how many people to expect so please register your interest by emailing your details to firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 0742 106 9761
